Overall Season Review -

Season 7 is a great comeback season and also the start of the Ebersol era. I consider this as a "make or break" because if it was worse than Season 6, I think this might've been its last season.

This was also the season of Eddie Murphy. He turned into a star once he introduced some of his, and the show's, greatest characters like Velvet Jones, Raheem Abdul Muhammed, and Gumby. Sure, the other cast was great, but Eddie just took it to a whole new level.

This season also had a lot of good musical guests: Hall and Oates, Sparks, Luther Vandross, Olivia-Newton John. The list just keeps going, and I didn't even count the musical sketches. I think there was a lot more focus on the musical side on SNL than the sketches, but even then, the jokes were a little funnier compared to other sesaons before it.

S7 Ep1 - Host: N/A

October 3, 1981

"AND NOW, LIVE FROM NEW YORK, THE MOST DANGEROUS CITY IN AMERICA, IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE!"

Well that was quite the intro, probably one of my favorite theme songs in SNL so far.

That Little Richard Simmons Show sketch was a great start for the season. That Andy Rooney sketch is so out of nowhere, same with Michael Davis' guest performance. Rod's sketches were pretty good, it'd be cool to see more of him. Weekend Update also changed its name to SNL Newsbreak which, to be honest, is not really that good of a name.

S7 Ep2 - Host: Susan Saint James

October 10, 1981

Oh god... THE BLACK HOUSE??

The audience chooses the sketches? At least they picked the Ronald McDonald & Wife option.

Not gonna' lie, Don Pardo was a better narrator. Mel Brandt just feels off.

S7 Ep3 - Host: George Kennedy

October 17, 1981

"I hope I get to move in your neighborhood someday. The problem is, when I move in... y'all move away!"

This episode felt a little shorter. Probably because I've been so used to Season 6's sketch schedule. The Hired Hand is kinda boring, but kinda funny. I don't know where to put this one in the favorites, same with Tuna Melts & Typing.

I'm also starting to notice this season has more musical sketches. The songs are pretty good like the Editorial Reply sketch. I would probably be more annoyed about them if they were made in eariler seasons, but this is different.

S7 Ep4 - Host: Donald Pleasence

October 31, 1981

JOHN BELUSHI CAMEO!!! AND MICHAEL DAVIS!!!!!

It's ironic to hear Eddie Murphy explain why it's funny to see rich white people get killed in horror movies, but now it's the black person getting killed first.

S7 Ep5 - Host: Lauren Hutton

Andy Murphy is a professional yapper- wait, why does "Super Freak" sound familiar?

The monkeys carried the episode.

S7 Ep7 - Host: Tim Curry

December 5, 1981

I don't know about this one. Great guy to host, but these are some cheap sketches. I'm pretty sure most of the episode was just from SNL Newsbreak and that Mick Jagger special.

Favorite Sketches:

Rating - 5/10

S7 Ep8 - Host: Bill Murray

December 12, 1981

Holy shit they got Santa Clause in this episode and- HOLY SON OF GOD, FATHER GUIDO SARDUCCI!!

Favorite Sketches:

Rating - 6/10

S7 Ep9 - Host: Robert Conrad

January 23, 1982

This might be the first time I've heard the audience appluad before a sketch is about to start.

This episode feels a little different, but that's probably because Michael O' Donoghue was fired after the Bill Murray episode. That babies on makeup sketch is so fucking weird, I hate it. The new weather sketches on SNL Newsbreak is a nice bonus and gave me a good chuckle, but overall, I'm not really a big fan of SNL Newsbreak so far.

S7 Ep10 - Host: John Madden

JOHN MADDEN!!!!! FOOTBALL!!!!!!!

John really knows how to hype up a show, but damn this episode was kinda boring, only a few good sketches and HOLY SHIT ANDY KAUFMAN!!!

S7 Ep11 - Host: James Coburn

February 6, 1982

"I come from a long line of Weiners, but I'll be frank with you."

This is a weird ass episode, there's literally a sketch about some family having from CRAZY taboos.

S7 Ep12 - Host: Bruce Dern

February 20, 1982

Oh shit, Luther Vandross?? PLAYING THIS HOUSE IS NOT A HOME???

I don't know why this episode is shorter, it's like 45 minutes long instead of the usual hour long episode.

Oh god, these fucking characters in the Bizarro World sketch are so annoying. Funny, but annoying

S7 Ep13 - Host: Elizabeth Ashley

Daryl Hall and John Oates?? This season has a lot of good musical guests. The sketches, it's alright. This episode, I've seen better. It's a little short, which is great, really helps me catch up, but it's fine. There's a lot of jokes for women though.

Larry the Lobster?? Like, the Spongebob character?

And we're back to mid. Larry's fate being voted on the phone was pretty funny though.

Not much to say about this show because there's mostly a lot of musical guest acts.

S7 Ep19 - Host: Danny DeVito

THE TROLL HIMSELF!!!

I'm so happy right now, it's been a while since I've seen a host I can actually recognize.

It was also awesome to finally see Andy Kaufman lose in a wrestling match, although it was just hard to watch because it just felt a little too real.

S7 Ep20 - Host: Olivia Newton-John

May 22, 1982

"That says something about European values and American values... They put them in jail, we put them in the white house."

Frank Sanatra and Stevie Wonder might be one crazy duo if it ever happened. Also, GRAHAM CHAPMAN FROM MONTY PYTHON CAMEO !!!

This season finale was pretty good, loved almost every sketch... but the musical performances were better.
