Go Back
Season 5 had a great start. I originally thought this season was going to be garbage because John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd left, but I was wrong and it made me realize how much talent the rest of the cast had.
Oh, and the featured players were alright, I guess.
Just another average episode of SNL, however, something's missing. Just can't put my finger on it.
This episode also has the smallest cast in the show, with just 5 people (plus the host).
Favorite Sketches:
This episode wasn't that bad. The male strippers sketch weirded me out. This episode is one of the few times Andy Kaufman actually made me laugh.
Favorite Sketches:
"Here's the thing, I'm 15, you're 40. I can't do this."
"It's because I'm black, isn't it."
Now look, I'm no basketball guy, but this might be the reason why the Celtics didn't win the finals that year. Not gonna lie, this season is starting off pretty strong. Even without Belushi or Aykroyd, the sketches are more focused.
Favorite Sketches:
Nine times. NINE TIMES HE HOSTED!
Didn't know people actually hated him hosting, I think it's awesome.
Also, BALTIMORE MENTIONED!!!
Favorite Sketches:
Kind of a boring episode, even the audience wasn't even laughing often. Bill Murray really hitting those high notes.
Favorite Sketches:
"Today, we're not gonna joke about Iran."
The next sketch is about Arabs moving to Bel Air.
Al Franken predicts the 80s will be "The Decade of Al Franken". Yeah, about that.
Favorite Sketches:
Ok, Martin Sheen and... DAVID BOWIE?????
For a host that only does drama, it's crazy how wacky this episode is, especially from the "Dark Shadows" sketch. I actually like this episode.
Favorite Sketches:
"Steve Martin... I am your father."
This episode is the last episode made in the 70s, and it felt pretty long, mostly because of the length of the sketches.
The wrestling bit was funny as hell, they deadass got an Olympic wrestler to make Andy Kaufman lose. It's such a change of pace, even for Andy, because ever since Season 1, he's only done lip-syncing showtunes and imitating Elvis Presley. Him almost losing is the loudest I've ever heard the crowd in all of my time watching this show.
Favorite Sketches:
"The American People don't want a president too old for the job, nor do they want a president who is simply 'accident prone'."
Alright, we're in the 80s, nothing really changed, other than having a few more featured players. I didn't really like this episode, too girly for me.
Favorite Sketches:
Halfway into the season and OH MY GOD HE DID THE FALL!!!
The new montage is actually pretty cool, and it seems like everyone's excited to see him back. This episode was alright, not much I could say with this one, it's a pretty fun one.
Favorite Sketches:
It's an poor episode, only loved like, 2 sketches.
Favorite Sketches:
"How old were you when you lost your virginity?"
"I was 9."
"May I ask, how old was your partner?"
"Oh, I didn't use one until I was 13."
Damn I really thought he was short. This episode was meh. It has some boring stories, but they're sorta executed well, I guess. I also miss Dan Aykroyd as Tom Snyder, the new guy isn't really that good. Oh, and the musical guests, Sam & Dave, also sang a cover from the The Blues Brothers' song "Soul Man".
Favorite Sketches:
Nah, The Ni**errand is crazy.
This episode is pretty controversial. The hard-R, the age gap predicament, and many others.
Favorite Sketches:
I don’t know if there was a host. This episode is the 100th show in SNL. Many cameos include John Belushi, Michael O’Donoghue, Michael Palin, and Ralph Nader. There are a lot of known facts about this episode, but the most notorious one is when Paul Shaffer slipped “fuck” in the “Minstrels of Newcastle” sketch.
This episode is hilarious. They did a lot more exciting sketches, especially with the “Talk or Die” sketch.
Favorite Sketches:
I liked this episode a bit. A lot of marriage sketches.
Favorite Sketches:
“It was hard to make a choice for the supporting actors, so I’m not predicting them because I don’t care.”
This episode was pretty meh. Focused a lot more on Burt and how attractive he is. Bill Murray’s 3rd annual predictions for the Oscars is his best one yet.
Favorite Sketches:
I deadass thought this was Steve Martin’s brother. This episode is so forgettable.
Favorite Sketches:
This episode is… alright, I thought the Dating Zone sketch was good.
Favorite Sketches:
They really thought Paul McCartney was gonna come to- HOLY SHIT IT’S PAUL AND LINDA MCCARTNEY!
They literally have a sketch of a bunch of people dick-riding other people, it’s so simple yet the execution is INCREDIBLE. The Thugs sketch was pretty creative when they had to take it one step further when they started bringing in the Thugs’ moms.
Favorite Sketches:
This is truly an end of an era.
This is the last episode with every cast member from what’s known as the “First Generation” of SNL, Buck Henry hosted for the 10th and final time before he died in 2020, nearly forty years after the airing of this episode at the time of writing this. This is also the last episode with Lorne Michaels as a producer until he returned during Season 11. The new cast was introduced by Buck himself in the monolouge. They made it as if it’s going to be better than what was on before and Buck even claimed he would soon host again… Little do they know.
But this episode is alright. It started kinda slow, especially with the Cow Minder’s Daughter sketch, but damn! I literally jumped from my seat when Uncle Roy almost got caught for the first time.
Andrae Crouch & the Voices of Unity performing "Can't Nobody Do Me Like Jesus" is probably one of my favorite performances.
